The developers say that we can get Esteem in The Sims Social by performing friendly actions with our neighbors, but I am sure you have tried it just as much as I did and nothing happened. Therefore, we can only think at this moment that we're talking about a bug and somehow Playfish will have to fix it really soon.
But until that happens, we can still get Esteem in The Sims Social: we can ask our friends to send it over and even though it's not as fun as interacting with Sims, it does the job!
